Outstanding solid walnut first edition 1964 'Action Office' desk by George Nelson for Herman Miller. This is the largest size desk that was available from the line. The desk offers a solid walnut tambour roll top that slides away and reveals a large white laminate writing surface / work space and a deep inner file space with a few original plastic inserts. Underneath the writing surface are 4 'hidden' drawers with solid walnut fronts. The desk is executed with black frame and side panels and rests upon a heavy cast aluminum chromed base. An extremely high end made modern and timeless iconic piece in magnificent all original condition. 'Action Office' series was used in the movie 'A Space Odyssey', the epic science fiction film from 1968, produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. We obtained this desk from the estate of Donald Thaden, The early partner of Carter Sparks, a well known 1960s architect. Please see all photos to ensure you know what you are buying. Condition report: Near mint condition. Obtained from the first owner who maintained it extremely well. The solid walnut tambour door slides as intended and all drawers open and close as intended. internal power plug has not been tested. Plastic inserts intact within the file section. A fine example of a rare design. 9.5/10 condition rating.
