Acoustic Research invented many of the standard features that are used in all speakers today such as the acoustic suspension [ sealed cabinet ], bass reflex [ air-ported type ], passive bass radiator and dome tweeters. This model fits in the 90 series at the lower end an unusual design from AR in that it is a two-way speaker with a 10inch woofer. Like the smaller AR18s of that generation, the big woofer has no crossover, instead being connected directly to the amp input. This is an acoustic suspension [ sealed box ] design, and works well close to a wall. The woofers have new foam upgrade surrounds, carefully chosen to maintain the bass performance of the drivers. There are also new input panels with sturdy binding posts and new capacitors in the tweeter circuit. NRPavs may upgrade the tweeter lead wires before any resale – the intention is to offer these AR38s in combination with our restoration project AR94 tower front speakers. The cabinets could only be rated "average" condition, they have the original grilles in good condition. We include FREE SHIPPING in the listing price.
